DANIEL RATA Set for MIDEM 2015 @ Palais de Festival
Cannes, France

May, 2015

Talented Western Australian singer-songwriter Daniel Rata will be playing at international music conference MIDEM next month, going back to where his international career first took off back in 2006.

MIDEM held annually at the Palais de Festivals, Cannes France, is the leading international business event for the music ecosystem and is recognized as the world’s foremost gathering of the music industry, with artists, producers, record company heads and television executives all mixing with promoters, social media specialists and an eclectic mix of music insiders.

Daniel made a name for himself at his first MIDEM conference and went on to record and work with internationally acclaimed producers, engineers and cowriters and successfully released EPs in both the UK and US, utilizing contacts he made at the event.

This year the event is being held from June 5-8 Cannes and Daniel is aiming to come away with a new, independent recording deal as well as targeting sync companies.

Over the last five years Daniel has recorded two EPs and several singles and played live at events like the international recording industry’s MusExpo in Los Angeles. He even recorded several tracks with the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra.

Now based back in Perth, Daniel has been writing tracks for a new album and playing a number of live shows to “test drive” the new material.

Originally from New Zealand Daniel Rata moved to Perth in the 1990s and became an instant hit with his smooth vocals, funky style and captivating stage presence.

He recorded his debut album Suspended in Time locally and received strong radio support, before moving overseas to expand his musical horizons and undertake further recording with the likes of legendary London-based producer John Ravenhall – best known for his work with international artists including Elton John, Sting and Sir Paul McCartney.

The subsequent Sunshine and Life EP’s both received solid airplay in the US, particularly through the college network.

Daniel’s vocal style is quite eclectic, with its roots in jazz and R&B but traversing the rock/pop genres. More recently some of his tracks have been remixed by high profile Sydney DJ-producer Aladdin Royaal and played in major clubs.

Daniel is currently playing a number of regular gigs in and around Perth, including Wednesday nights at the Universal Bar in the city.
